Larry R. Salmons, 76, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025. He was born on November 13, 1948, in Pikeville, KY, the son of the late Leonard and Ruth (Compton) Salmons. He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating with the Class of 1967. Larry served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was employed as a CNA, then as a maintenance man at the Iron County Medical Care Facility for 19 years. He was a member of the VFW Ottawa Post #3134, the American Legion Reino Post #21, the Michigan DAV Post #67, and the President of the Iron River National Guard Club and served 21 years in the Michigan National Guard. An avid outdoorsman, Larry loved to fish. He also enjoyed collecting coins, woodworking, and going to the casino. Larry is survived by his son, Kyle Salmons of Iron River, MI; brother, Ronald Salmons of Marinette, WI; sisters, Barbara Kirchner of Stevens Point, WI, Betty (Jeff) Stromberg of Iron River, MI, and Connie Lindstrom of Fremont, MI; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Young and Brenda Brandon. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. The West Side Chaplain will say a prayer at the funeral home before going to the graveside. Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
