Lena Delago, age 89, of Caspian, MI, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at her home. She was born January 21, 1925 in Loretto, MI, the daughter of the late Peter and Rosa (Meneguzzo) Pellizzer. She attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1943. Lena married Cornelius Delago Jr. on November 30, 1946 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary in 1992. Cornelius preceded her in death on February 20, 1993. Lena was employed in the kitchen at West Iron County Hospital for over ten years and was awarded Employee of the Year while at the hospital. She was a member St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian and St. Ann’s Society. She enjoyed cooking and making pasta, baking, sewing, and crocheting. She was an avid Detroit Tiger fan, and her biggest pride was her kids and family. Lena is survived by her sons, Pierre (Susan) Delago of Afton, MN, and Paul (Charlene) Delago of Kenai, AK; daughters, Barbara (John) Sevener of Crystal Lake, IL, and Julie Delago of East Bethel, MN; brothers, John (Germaine) Pellizzer of Caspian, and James (Ruth) Pellizzer of Iron River; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Marinello. Visitation will be held Monday, May 12 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The ladies of St. Ann’s Society will form an Honor Guard at the service. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
