Leo A. Remondini, 93, of Caspian, MI, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. He was born February 17, 1920 in Caspian, MI, the son of the late Clement and Lucy (Westphal) Remondini. He attended the Stambaugh Schools. Leo was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, and was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. Leo married the former Antoinette Beyer on March 13, 1954, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. He was employed by M.A. Hanna Mining Company in the local mines for 35 years, and owned and operated Leo 's Bar in Caspian. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, the American Legion Reino Post #21, VFW Ottawa Post #3134, the UAW, 78th Infantry Division, the Iron County Housing Board, and member of the Caspian-Gaastra Fire Department for over 62 years. He also served as Caspian City Commissioner and Iron County Commissioner. He enjoyed bocce ball, hunting, fishing, and being at camp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Antoinette; son, Leo A. Remondini; brothers, Orville and Clement Remondini; and sisters, Laura Lloyd, Violet Kovacich, and Beverly Karvala. Leo is survived by his sons, Robert (Diane) Remondini of Caspian, Thomas Remondini of Tustin, CA, Vaughn Remondini of Caspian, Denton (Sue) Kornburger of Las Vegas, NV, and Milton (Barb) Kornburger of Saukville, WI; daughter, Corliss (Kenneth) Burns of Crystal Falls; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Members of the West Side Firemen 's Association will pass in review at the visitation. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Pallbearers are Bradley Volkmann, Ian Gill, Brian Remondini, Kevin Remondini, David Burns, and L.J. Burns. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
