Leola J. Hjort

Leola K. Hjort, age 95 of Bates Location, Iron River, MI died Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. Born: May 10, 1913 in Kenosha, WI The daughter of the late Jules and Sophie (Branning) Roben attended school in Detroit, MI and graduated from Western High School. She married Albert Hjort who grew up in Covington, MI on September 13, 1931 in Detroit, MI and the couple resided in Allen Park, MI, moving to Iron County in 1977. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert in 1987 and her brother Lloyd Roben of Greenville, SC. She had a strong faith and was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Iron River. Leola was a loving mother and devoted wife. She gained great joy from her grandchildren, and the family has wonderful memories of her cooking and baking. She is survived by daughters; Lois Miller of Fountain, CO Linda (Donald) Summers of Mercer Island, WA Four grandchildren; Liana, Gary, Emily and Cailen Four great grandchildren; Sarah, Heather, Melissa, and Caitlyn One great, great grandson, Logan Graveside services will be held May 10, 2009 at the Covington Township Cemetery, Covington, MI with the Rev. Bonny Kinnunen, pastor of the First Lutheran Church, Iron River to officiate. Interment: Covington Township Cemetery, Covington. The family suggest memorials to the First Lutheran Church, Iron River.
