Leonard "Jake" Wurzer

Leonard “Jake” Wurzer, age 92, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at the Iron River Care Center. He was born on January 15, 1929, in Caspian, MI, the son of the late Tillie Wurzer. Jake attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1947. He was a US Army Veteran serving from 1950 to 1952. He was employed as a miner for M.A. Hanna and took over the family farm in the Baumgartner District of Stambaugh Township in 1968. Jake was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and The American Legion Reino Post 21. He enjoyed playing third base in baseball, tending to his garden, and taking care of the beef cattle on the farm. Jake was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan for over 87 years and a Green Bay Packer fan. Jake is survived by cousins, David (Suzanne) Wurzer, Peter Wurzer, John (Barbara) Baumgartner, Don (Jaci) Baumgartner, Mary Baumgartner Hills, and Mary Wurzer; extended family, and friends. He was also preceded in death by his cousin, David Baumgartner A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. at Stambaugh Cemetery with Rev. Ronald Timock to officiate. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iron County Cancer Unit.
