Leroy A. Lindstrom, age 90, of Kingsford, MI, formerly of Iron River, MI, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born on September 20, 1932, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Walter and Norma (Shovald) Lindstrom. Leroy attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the class of 1951. He attended Michigan State and earned a degree in business. Leroy was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Leroy married Lois Erickson on June 11, 1955, in Iron River, MI. They celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary in 1989. Lois preceded him in death on August 1, 1989. Leroy married Mae Arlene Nylund Retzlaff in 1999. They were married for 19 years before she preceded him in death on September 28, 2018. Leroy took over the family Ford dealership in Iron River in 1959 and was its longest owner. When the dealership eventually closed it was the oldest Ford dealership in the Upper Peninsula. Leroy loved music, enjoyed playing and restoring pianos, but his greatest passion was for the game of golf which he played every chance he got. Through the years “Lucky Lee” had two “hole in one's” with the latest in his early 80s. In the early 1970s he won a trip for two to the Super Bowl in California for his car sales that year. On the morning of the game, he talked Lois into going golfing instead and had her swear not to tell anyone. To Leroy golfing a new course was more important than any sporting event. He also enjoyed dancing and met his wife Arlene at Losey's Landing on Chicagon Lake. They had a summer cottage on Chicagon Lake and a winter home in “The Villages”, FL. Leroy golfed as much as possible during the week because weekends were for dancing. They really enjoyed their home in “The Villages” where they met so many great friends. Leroy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River, the Golden K, and many years as an officer in the Upper Peninsula Ford Dealers Association. Leroy is survived by his son, Kyle (Dawn) Lindstrom of Kingsford, MI; daughter, Pamela Liddell of Coffeyville, KS; stepchildren, Kathy (Roger) Guye of Kingsford, MI, Mike (Shanna) Retzlaff of Fruitport, MI, and Scott (Sheryl) Retzlaff of Riverview, MI; sister, Alice (Norman) Shamion of Casper, WY; grandchildren, Kayla and Erick Lindstrom, Chad (Jamie) Liddell, Christi (Brad) Keiser and Brian (Emily) Retzlaff, eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; extended family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, James Liddell and sister, Karen Usedom. The family would like to thank everyone at the Oscar G. Johnson Veterans Hospital long-term care unit and the Crystal Falls Medical Care Facility for the excellent care they gave to Leroy. Leroy will truly be missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Iron River with Dawn Robbins to officiate. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
