Lesley Joyce Olson

Lesley Joyce Olson, the most loving and caring nurse, was welcomed into heaven on Monday, October 12, 2020. We are most assured that she entered heaven giving thanks for the wonderful people she served with as well as the dedicated and caring people at Willow West at the Iron County Medical Care Facility. She was born on October 9, 1943 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Evert and Joyce (Mathews) Thunander. She attended and graduated from the Iron River Schools with the Class of 1961. She then attended the Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing. Lesley married Keith S. Olson on June 6, 1964 in Chicago, IL. She began her nursing career in Chicago and also worked in Marquette and Crystal Falls. The couple returned to the Iron River area in 1965, and she was employed at the Iron County General Hospital, retiring on February 14, 2007, after a 50-year career in nursing. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River. Lesley enjoyed gardening, quilting, decorating, and cooking. She also enjoyed line dancing and spending time outdoors in nature. Lesley is survived by her husband, Keith Olson of Iron River, MI; three sons, Stephen (Tammy) Olson of Stephenson, MI, Joel (Cara) Olson of Escanaba, MI, and Timothy (Heather) Olson of Onalaska, WI; daughter, Rebecca (Brooks) Elitzer of Greendale, WI; sister, Nancy (Jacque) Mittendorf of Stewart, FL; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Bates Township Cemetery, Iron River.
