Leta Jean Peronto

Leta Jean Peronto, age 89, passed away Friday August 31, 2012 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. Jean was born in Kalkaska, Michigan August 7th, 1923, the youngest child of Roy and Crystal Buckel. Her family moved to Hardwood where they farmed and homesteaded for many years. She graduated from Felch High School in 1941. She married Russell Peronto in 1942 who preceeded her in death in 1993 after nearly 51 years of marriage. Jean joined the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Russell and Jean, with son Pat, moved to Iron River in 1953 and were long time residents of the Burns Addition on North First Avenue. Jean was a graduate of the Bay de Noc Community College Practical Nursing Program in 1968. She worked as an LPN at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls for nearly twenty years. She was preceeded in death by her parents Roy and Crystal Buckel, sister Eva Moore, two brothers Bruce and Larry Buckel, and husband Russell Peronto. Jean is survived by her son Patrick of Pennsylvania, grandson Andy of California, granddaughter Edie of New York and two great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the service.
