Lettie J. Sartorelli

Lettie Jean (née Thunander) Sartorelli, 89, passed away on February 9, 2020 at Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI. Lettie was born on February 2, 1931 in Bates Township, the daughter of Edwin and Germaine (née Putz) Thunander.  She attended Bates and Iron River High School graduating in 1948 and afterwards worked as a secretary for Billing’s Real Estate office. Lettie was married to Kenneth Sartorelli on August 18, 1951 at Blessed Sacrament Church.  She worked as secretary and bookkeeper for her husband’s construction business and in more recent years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.  Together they raised six children. Lettie’s faith and family were the center of her life.  She was an active member of St. Cecelia Catholic parish serving in the St. Ann’s Society and as an Honor Guard coordinator.  She was a loving and devoted mother to her six children.  She provided many delicious meals and baked goods such as pasties and homemade bread. Lettie was an avid patron of the arts including the Northwoods Symphony and Iron County Band as well as the occasional impromptu jam session at Camp Batawagama Senior Days. Lettie loved to play the saxophone and piano for the entertainment of her family and community. Along with her parents and siblings Gerald, Charles and Kathryn Whittaker, Lettie was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth and son Joseph. Lettie is survived by daughters, Mary Anne (Stephen) Krupski of Oconomowoc, WI, Theresa (William) Whitman of Yuma, AZ, Germaine (Michael) Stefanac of Marquette, MI, and Rebecca (Roger) Grandahl of Crystal Falls, MI; son, Christopher (Andrea) Sartorelli of Milwaukee, WI; 14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 1:00pm at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Caspian, MI with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.  The Ladies of St. Ann’s Society will form an honor guard at the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lettie’s memory to St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Camp Batawagama http://www.friendsofcampbatawagama.com/sponsorship.html or Locker Lunch at 751 N 4th Ave, Iron River, MI 49935.
