Lionel J. Ask

Lionel J. Ask, age 89, Iron River, MI died Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Iron River Care Center, Iron River. He was born June 27, 1918 in Iron River to John and Olga (Berg) Ask. He attended the Stambaugh schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1937. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marines. After his honorable discharge, Lionel returned to the local area. On June 14, 1947, he married the former Florence Lindstrom and the couple made their home in Stambaugh. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in 2003. Florence preceded him in death on September 7, 2003. Lionel worked for the M.A. Hanna Mining Company in the local mines, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a church deacon, Sunday school teacher, and sang in the choir. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Esmeralda Salo and Dorothy Swanson. He is survived by two sons, Roger of St. Paul, MN Gary (Laurelyn) of Detroit Lakes, MN Grandchildren; Rebecca, Kevin, Cynthia (Seth) Goding, and Nathan (Mandy) Great grandson, Jonah Many nieces and nephews Visitation: Friday, March 28, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River and Saturday, March 29, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Iron River. Funeral Service: Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Iron River with the Rev. John Fish to officiate.
