Lorena R. Dohl

Lorena Rae Dohl, age 81, of Crystal Falls, MI, went to her heavenly home Saturday, October 24, 2020 at UP Health System, in Marquette. Lorena was born on July 3, 1939 in Rockton, WI, the daughter of Norman and Marvel (Hollenbeck) Egstad. Lorena attended Middleton Highschool (WI) and then Wisconsin State College-Platteville graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education. Lorena married Raymond Dohl on June 10, 1960 in Platteville, WI. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. They called Oconto, WI home for many years before moving to Texas, Oklahoma, and finally Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. After completing a degree in education, Lorena had a family and taught English in public schools until choosing to put her energy into family full time. While working with her husband in their family business, as a stay-at-home mom, she remained involved in education by doing substitute teaching, taking a few graduate credits, working with church school programs as a music director, and other volunteer work. When the nest emptied, she went to work for a health insurance company in the customer service department. After she and Raymond retired to the Upper Peninsula, she enjoyed walking, feeding the deer in her backyard, getting to know her great grandchild, and checking in on her neighbors. She was a blessing to each of her communities though the consistent care and kindness she extended to her neighbors. According to Lorena, her greatest blessings were their wonderful children and their families, learning and personal growth, and the people whom she shared her life with. Activities with her children and grandchildren were her favorite. When the weather was right she enjoyed cycling and being on the water. When in snow country, she loved to snowshoe and cross-country ski. She also enjoyed road trips and reading. As an intent life-long learner, she had a strong interest in holistic health and learning what can be done to reduce the risk of and manage degenerative diseases. Lorena is survived by her husband, Raymond of Crystal Falls, MI; sons, Jeffrey (Angie Polich Dohl) of Gaastra, MI and Lane of Sun Prairie, WI; daughter, Kala Exworthy (Rory Welper) of Minneapolis, MN; brother, Leroy (Sandy) Egstad of Marshfield, WI; sister, Yvonne (Bob) Rowe of Verona, WI; grandchildren, Lindsay, Lane Anthony, Greta, Georgie; great grandchild, Ellery Jean and one on the way; extended family and friends.
