Lowella B. Youngell, age 89 of Iron River, MI, died Monday January 12, 2009 at the Iron River Care Center, Iron River. Born: May 31, 1919 in Channing, MI The daughter of the late George and Agnes (DeRosha) Dobson was a lifelong resident of the area. She attended schools in Nelma, WI and then the Stambaugh schools. She married Elmer Olson in August, 1938 and had four daughters. In May, 1945, she married Edward Youngell. She attended a school for photo journalism, managed a photography shop in Iron River and photographed weddings and portraits. Lowella was also a free lance photographer for the Green Bay Gazette, Milwaukee Sentinel and Journal, Detroit Free Press and Chicago Tribune. Some of her work appeared on magazine covers as well. There was an exhibit of her work in a gallery in Westport, MI. A photo of the Porcupine Mountains in Autumn won a place in Senator Robert Griffith's Office in Washington, D.C. Lowella was instrumental in originating the ""Snaps with Santa"" program many years ago with Arlene Shovald and Leo Konwinski and worked on that project for 14 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Youngell, on June 21, 1976; one daughter, Ellen Olson; brothers, Donald and Ronald Dobson; son-in-law, Harold Brimmer; and best friend, Leo ""Santa"" Konwinski. She is survived by three daughters; Darlene (Donald) Powell of Iron River Karen Brimmer of Iron River Gail (Larry) Puckett of Iron River Two brothers; Kenneth (Isabel) Dobson of Ranger, TX George (Prisilla) Dobson of Vancouver, WA Nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren Lifelong friend, Evelyn Anderson of Iron River Many relatives and friends Private family services Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, MI.
