Lucille M. Benson, age 86, of Iron River, Michigan, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Iron River Care Center. She was born May 18, 1930, in Stambaugh Township at Stanley Lake, the daughter of the late William and Bertha (Ziebarth) Heisel. She also grew up in Stambaugh Township at Stanley Lake. She attended the Pioneer School in the Baumgartner District and graduated from Stambaugh High School, with the Class of 1948. She worked at the J.J. Newberry Store and at Warshawsky and Gola’s grocery stores. She later worked at Iron County Medicare, until her retirement in 1992. Lucille married Robert Benson on March 15, 1952 and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1999. She was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, all of her life. She served as an organist, for 40 years, and Secretary of the Ladies Aid for many years. She loved being very active in her church. She volunteered on the Stambaugh Election Board. She also enjoyed Bingo, going to the casino, cooking, baking, camping, fishing, senior dances and activities at the Senior Center. Lucille is survived by her children, Charlotte (Mike) Bjorkman, Clinton (Beverly) Benson, Russell (Debbie) Benson and Dorothy Benson; eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Paul and Michael (as an infant); brothers, Albert, Walter and Martin Heisel; sisters, Emma Abrahamson and Irene Collins. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. at St. Peters Lutheran Church. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Norman Greve to officiate. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery, in the spring.
