Luella R. Williams

July 18, 1929 — November 24, 2014

Luella R. Williams, age 85, of Iron River, MI, peacefully moved on to her next adventure on Monday, November 24, 2014 following a decline in health due to respiratory disease. She was born July 18, 1929 to Peter and Valma (Prittinen) Lindbeck in Iron River, MI, in the area known as "Little Finland". She lived her life to the fullest: strong, independent and loaded with "sisu". Luella attended Iron River High School, then graduated from the Henry Ford School of Nursing. She married Gerald W. “Corky” Williams in Iron River on October 6, 1951; Corky preceded her in death on September 5, 1984. Luella and Corky raised their four daughters on the shores of Sunset Lake until 1969, then afterwards in Salt Lake City, UT, following a job relocation. In 1991 Luella returned to Sunset Lake, the place her heart will always call home. Luella's nursing career as an RN spanned more than 30 years, first with the Iron County Health Dept., then for the State of Utah Handicapped Childrens' Services. Since retirement she has pursued her passion for genealogy, traveling the U.S. and various countries, seeking out distant kin and establishing lifelong relationships in the process. As a result of her tenacious research she leaves behind a legacy of volumes of ancestral information for her own Norwegian / Finnish / Swedish lineage as well as the lineages of extended family and friends. Her works include "My Father’s People", a book she authored. Luella is survived by her daughters and their families: Margery, of West Jordan, UT; Roberta (Earl), of Sandy, UT; Betty (Duncan), of Salt Lake City, UT and Vera (Kevin) of Richmond, UT. Also surviving her are grandsons Mike and Morgan, Jai and Adam, Tony and Casey, nine great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her two brothers, Lionel Lindbeck and Lloyd "Peter" Lindbeck. Special thanks and eternal gratitude go to Vera for taking on the role of caregiver this past year, and also to that special pup, Brutus (Grammys Boy) who filled Luella's life with sunshine during the difficult days. Per Luella's wishes, no formal services will be held at this time. A celebration of her life, to be held around her birthday in 2015, will be announced at a later date.
