Lyn M. Carlson

August 18, 1985 — January 8, 2017

Lyn Carlson of Iron River passed away Sunday January 8th in Madison, Wisconsin, after a life-long battle with cystic fibrosis. She found her peace quietly surrounded by family and friends. Many casual acquaintances of Lyn’s have described her as “sweet.” While Lyn was indeed very sweet, those who knew her well would comment first on her tenacity of spirit, her unyielding loyalty as a friend, and her unparalleled wit and humor. She was the first to come to the rescue of a stranger in need and the first to cheer on an underdog. She was a lover of all things Halloween, a true music enthusiast, and a free spirit on her motorcycle. Lyn spent much of her free time sending cards and notes in the mail to brighten people’s days. She often knew the correct “Jeopardy” question when all three contestants got it wrong. Her final years were spent reading literature classics, kayaking, gardening, and volunteering at the Northwoods Animal Shelter in Iron River. Lyn loved all animals but none more than her rescue dog Lily. Lyn was the recipient of a double lung transplant in 2015 which enabled her to breathe more freely in her last two years. She was humbled with gratitude to the family of her organ donor, Connie. According to her wishes and her “pay it forward” philosophy, Lyn herself was able to donate tissues after her death. In the spirit of her memory, please consider becoming an organ and tissue donor (www.registerme.org). Lyn is survived by her parents, Jeff and Jayne Carlson of Iron River; sister, Sarah Carlson of Enfield, New Hampshire; grandmother, Marie Edlund of Iron River; uncles Ron (Tina) Edlund of Iron River, and Ron (Rene) Carlson of Iron River; cousins Richelle (Joe) Jochem, and Kerry (Josh) Rivard of Iron River and their children, including her god-daughter Reese Rivard. Funeral services will be held at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River on Saturday, January 14th. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00am, with services to follow. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, Lyn’s family asks that you consider making a donation to the Lyn Carlson Charitable Fund, which will support causes near and dear to Lyn’s heart.
