Marcia Helen Peterson, age 90 , of Iron River, MI, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. Marcia was born January 3, 1926 in Republic, MI, the daughter of the late Waino and Martha Isaacson. She attended the Republic School, graduating in the Class of 1943. Following graduation, she moved to Chicago and worked for the University of Chicago. She was also a model for Montgomery Wards and sold War Bonds during WWII there. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Republic Historical Society, the 20th Century Club, and an accomplished seamstress, and a doll maker. She enjoyed interior design, landscaping and painting. Marcia married Robert O. Peterson, also of Republic, in Chicago, on August 3, 1946. The couple resided in Ypsilanti, Gladstone, South Haven, and Iron River while he was employed by the Michigan State Police, then later American Motors Corp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Peterson in 2007, her father, Waino, mother, Martha Isaacson, and her two brothers, Everett and Arthur Isaacson while they were serving in the Air Force during WWII. Marcia is survived by her daughter, Shelley Peterson-Knepp of Iron River and son, Drew Peterson of Indianapolis, IN, and their spouses; grandchildren, Travis, Chad, Corey, Tyler, Sarah, and Scott; many great grandchildren; nieces, cousin, Bob Isaacson, and extended family. Visitation will be held Monday, May 9, 2016 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. with Rev. LaVonne Stephenson to officiate.
