Margaret Abata

Margaret A. Abata Age 93 De Forest, WI (formerly of Iron River, MI)Died Friday. February 11, 2011 at her home. Born: January 7, 1918 in Gaastra, MI The daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Rossi) Ponozzo attended the Gibbs City and Lincoln schools. Margaret married James Abata on August 14, 1937 at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River. In 1962, the couple moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin to make their home, returning to Iron River in 1981 after James retired. The couple celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in 1986. James preceded her in death on December 17, 1986. After the death of her husband, Margaret moved to De Forest to be near her children, She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, reading, scrap booking, playing cards with her grandchildren, and especially spending time with family. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, James, Louie, Ernie, and John Ponozzo and four sisters, Santa Ponozzo, Edith Delriva, Clara Kucinski, and Alma Purgatorio. She is survived by her son, Daniel (Vicki) Abata of De Forest, WI Daughter, Darlene (Bart) Keeling of Milwaukee, WI Five grandchildren and five great grandchildren Numerous nieces and nephews Private family visitation will be held. Funeral Service: Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River, with Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River Margaret's long journey is over and her family thanks those at Walnut Grove (DeForest) and those from Southern Care who looked after her with love, compassion and concern.
