Marie A. Edlund

Marie Ann Edlund, 79, of Iron River passed away suddenly on Sunday October 6th, 2019. Marie was born June 7th, 1940, in Gaastra to Walter and Anna Johnson. She is survived by her son Ronald (Tina) Edlund of Iron River, daughter Jayne (Jeff) Carlson of Iron River, brother Richard (Carol) Johnson of California, sister Marilyn Rivard of Caspian, brother-in-law Ray (Marge) Edlund, sister-in-law Barbara Edlund, granddaughter Sarah Carlson of Boston, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband Ron, step father Warren Hayes, and granddaughter Lyn Carlson. Marie will be remembered for her sharp wit, keen intellect and dominance in word puzzles and games.  Her sense of style was equally sharp, and she never left the house without the right accessories and lipstick.  She was happiest when surrounded by family enjoying a rousing game of cards and board games, or trying her luck at bingo or the casino.  She was an unparalleled baker, and her salty garlic breadsticks have been enjoyed (and raved about) around the world.  Marie’s home has been a retirement respite for many shelter dogs over the years, and each of them received the same home cooking and hospitality that the humans in her family enjoyed. Marie was member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Iron River.  A luncheon in celebration of Marie’s life will be held at St. Peter’s on Friday, October 11th, at noon.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Northwoods Animal Shelter in Marie’s honor.
