Marie Montambo, 97, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI.
Marie was born on December 29, 1928, in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Howard and Eva (Ducharme) Hawke. She attended the Caspian and Stambaugh Schools.
She married Daniel J. Montambo on May 22, 1947, in Crystal Falls, MI. Together they raised six children and celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1997. Daniel preceded her in death on December 14, 1998.
Marie was a lifelong resident of the Iron County area-except for a short period of time while her husband was employed at the White Pine Mine-returning to the Iron River area upon retirement.
She was a stay-at-home wife and mother, with a gentle and quiet spirit, who loved sitting in the sun, sharing a cup of coffee with friends, and enjoying life’s simple moments. Marie was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, MI, and the St. Anne’s Society. She found her greatest joy in caring for her family, metal detecting with her husband, and spending quality time with her children and grandchildren.
Marie is survived by three sons, Gale Montambo of Charleston, SC, Roger Montambo of Iron River, MI, and Jerry Montambo of Iron River, MI; three daughters Carol Masuga of Iron River, MI, Diane (Robert) Remondini of Caspian, MI, and Roseanne Hanninen of Iron River, MI; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mildred; granddaughter, Lisa; one sister and four brothers. Marie was greatly loved by her family.
Private family services will be held.
Interment will be Stambaugh Cemetery.
