Marion ""Dorothy"" Kneebone Age 87 Iron River, MIPassed away Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. Dorothy was born on September 30, 1923 in Nash District to pioneer residents Christine and Christian Bernhardt. She attended Nash School and graduated from Iron River High School in 1941. She married Eldred ""Soupy"" Kneebone Jr. on June 16th, 1946 at her family home. Dot and Soupy celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on June 16th, 1996 and their 60th at Camp Batawagama in 2006. She was very active in 4-H both as a member and a leader and won several trips to the State Fair for demonstrations given at Camp Shaw. In 1943 she was selected as the ""Most Outstanding 4-H Girl in the State of Michigan"", and won a trip to the National 4-H Club Congress. She loved the outdoors and camping with her family. She is survived by her husband Eldred, two sons, John (Patricia) Kneebone of Indianapolis, Indiana, Thomas (Nora) Kneebone of Iron River and one daughter, Barbara (Don) Sheill of Esmond, North Dakota. Four grandsons and two granddaughters survive: Michael (Angela) Kneebone of Indianapolis; David (Casi) Kneebone of Los Angeles, California; Thomas ""T.J."" Kneebone and Daniel Kneebone of Iron River; Theresa (Ron Kim) Kneebone of Exeter, New Hampshire; and Elizabeth Kneebone of Washington D.C. Dorothy is also survived by six great grandchildren: Maya and Sam Kim of Exeter, New Hampshire; Johnathan, Charlie and James Kneebone of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Elliott ""Eli"" Kneebone of Los Angeles, California. She is also survived by one brother, Harold (Marcia) Bernhardt and two sisters-in-law, Marcia (Harold) Bernhardt and Marguerite (Vernon) Bernhardt of Iron River. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Mamie Tarnowski, Ruth Vicklund and Agnes Gerner, and her three brothers Fred, Carl and Vernon Bernhardt. Many dear nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be held at the Grace Covenant Church on Saturday, February 12th at 11:00 AM. An additional service followed by burial is being planned for August at Rose Hill Cemetery in Beechwood. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Iron County Cancer Unit, Iron River, Michigan or to the Iron County Historical Museum, Caspian, Michigan.
