Marjorie “Margie” Peace Tarsi, age 99, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Iron River, MI on November 11, 1918 – the day that World War I ended. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Flossie (Hooper) Williams. Her unique middle name was a tribute to the war’s end. Margie grew up in Iron River and graduated from the Iron River High School, with the Class of 1936. She then went onto attend Cosmetology School in Iron Mountain, Michigan. On September 11, 1937, Marjorie married Aldo Tarsi in Iron River, MI. They celebrated 47 wonderful years together, before Aldo’s passing in May of 1985. She was adopted into a large Italian family and its culture, upon her marriage to Aldo. At that time, her favorite pastime was being recruited by her mother-in-law, Concetta, into taking her and her lady friends out to pick berries and mushrooms. She spent several years employed by F.W. Means. After retiring, she worked for her sister-in-law at Alice’s Supper Club, until she was 85 years old. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, and the St. Agnes Altar Society. With every free moment, she spent caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved cooking, gardening, storytelling and visiting with people. Margie was a tremendous dog lover and cared for many throughout the years. Margie is survived by her three beloved children, Sally Shovald of Iron River, MI, James (Sandra) Tarsi of Marquette, MI, Nancy Ambrose of Iron River, MI; seven grandchildren, Mark (Gayle) Shovald, Dane (Janine) Shovald, Debbie (Ron) Lewis, Kelly Garavet, Alexandra (Matt) Anderson, Benjamin Tarsi and Boden (Yasmina) Russell; eleven great grandchildren, Michelle (Rob), Joe (Krista), Jacob, Rachel, Cory (Kristie), Kendall, Lucas, Zachary, Nicholas, Kailey and Ayden; eight great, great grandchildren, Cameron, Sophia, Duke, Cannen, Lauren, Maecee, Jamison and Londyn; as well as numerous extended family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen Tarsi, an infant grandson, Zacary Tarsi and son-in-law, James Shovald. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, in the spring.
