Marjorie Ann Tackmier (Barnum), 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 11th at Teal Lake Senior Living in Negaunee Mi. She was born on October 31, 1929 in Iron River, Mi the daughter of the late Robert and Edna (Lynch) Barnum. She married Merrel “Burly” Tackmier on July 1st 1950 and they raised three children William, Jane and Tod. For many years Marge’s family resided on Sunset and Stanley Lake. Marge loved reading, spending time at the lake and playing bridge. She was a graduate of Iron River High School as well as Northern Michigan University. Her love of children and value of continuing education and learning made Marge a natural teacher. Loved by her students, she was employment as an ISD and Kindergarten teacher and Marge reminisced about them thru her retirement years. Being a passionate reader and thirsty for knowledge she spent countless hours in the library and reading mystery novels. Every evening she could be found curled up with a reading lamp clipped to her book. Marge also was a supporter of the Special Olympics. She enjoyed attending Olympic games and cheering for her Grandson Josh and all the other athletes. Additionally, Marge was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. Marjorie is survived by her five grandchildren, Lisa Banks, Bridget (Roger) Vest, Justine Tackmier, Heidi (Mark) Werda and Joshua Lamp; six great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Merrel “Burly” Tackmier; children William “Tack” Tackmier, Jane Lamp, and Tod Tackmier; sisters, Mary “Betty” Lowell and Millimae Malmsten; Brother Thomas Barnum. A sincerest thank you to Teal Lake Senior Living and U.P. Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion they gave Marge. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date TBA. Interment will be in Iron River Cemetery.
