Mark S. Saylor

Mark S. Saylor, age 73, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. He was born on June 23, 1949, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Elaine (King) and Adolph Malinowski. Mark attended the Iron River Schools. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Mark married Nancy Reitmaier on May 11, 1991, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iron River. They celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary this year. He was employed as a butcher for Meyers Meat Provisions and also worked at Lakeshore. Mark was a member of the VFW Ottawa Post #3134, The American Legion Reino Post #21, Order of the Purple Hearts, the Marine Corps League Keweenaw Detachment #1016 and Iron Mountain Detachment #1239. He was also a trustee for the State of Michigan Veterans Trust Fund. Mark was an honorary member of the Stambaugh Fire Department and a member of the Iron County Fair board for many years. He liked to work in his garage, have coffee at McDonald’s, go fishing and hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren. Mark is survived by his wife, Nancy Saylor; children, Shane (Jul Ann) Saylor of Flagstaff, AZ, Rebecca (Larry Schmidt) Glomp of Florence, WI, Matthew (Jessica) Glomp of Negaunee, MI, and Marija Saylor of Milwaukee, WI; sister, Janet (Bimbo) Alexa of Iron River, MI; grandchildren, Ace Saylor and Audrey Schmidt; mother-in-law, Janet Reitmaier; brothers-in-law, John (Sue) Reitmaier, Jim (Lisa) Reitmaier, and Ed Reitmaier; best friend, Larry Salmons; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was also preceded in death by brothers, David and Curt Saylor; sisters, Sharon Moore and Shelia LaPlant; father-in-law, John Reitmaier; and brother-in-law, Joseph Reitmaier. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Vicky Prewitt to officiate. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at 12 pm.
