Martin J. Bemis

Martin J. Bemis, age 93, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Iron River Care Center. He was born on June 20, 1930, in Florence, WI, the son of the late Charles and Lena (Rucinski) Bemis. Martin attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1949. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Martin married Audrey Norkoli on August 11, 1951, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gaastra, MI and the couple made their home in the Green Bay, WI area. After retiring, they returned to Iron County and made their home in Bates Township. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2011. Audrey preceded him in death on January 10, 2012. He was employed as a machinist in Green Bay, WI for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and sharing stories of those adventures. Martin is survived by his sons, Wayne (Linda) Bemis of Palacios, TX and Timothy (Shelly) Bemis of Ridgeway, SC; sisters, Kathleen Bemis of Iron River, MI, Margaret Dosh of Milwaukee, WI, and Suzie (Jim) Swift of North Carolina; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Bemis; brothers, Jerome, James, Patrick, Allan, and Mark Bemis; and his sisters, Sister Marlene Bemis and Ellen Jane Bemis. Visitation will be held on Monday December 18, 2023, from 11:00a.m. to 12:00 noon at Fort Howard Memorial Park in Green Bay WI. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon with Deacon Bill Burkel to officiate. Interment will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park in Green Bay, WI. The US Air Force Honor Guard will accord Military Rites at the graveside. The family would like to thank the staff at the Iron River Care Center for the time Martin spent with them.
