Marvin W. Melchiori

Marvin W. Melchiori, age 89, of Caspian, MI, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI. He was born April 17, 1928 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late William “Bull” and Irene (Sperberg) Melchiori. He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating in 1947. While in high school, he played football for the Hilltoppers. As a youngster, Marvin had rheumatic fever, which prevented him from serving in the military. Marvin married Ethlyn Mae Ellis on August 15, 1953 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. The couple made their home in Stambaugh, Michigan. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in Caspian and enjoyed wintering in Florida together for the last 35 years. He was employed in the communications industry, working for Ameritech, Michigan Bell, and AT & T. Marvin retired with 38 years of service. He became a member of the famed Iron County Steelers semi-professional football team for several seasons and often told stories about his experiences. He was also a member of the Stambaugh Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, picking berries, and listening to Blue Grass music. Marvin is survived by his wife, Ethlyn Mae Melchiori; sons, Gerald (Cathy) Melchiori of Chatham, MI, Michael Melchiori of Iron River, MI, and James (Julie) Melchiori of Chassell, MI; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Wayne Melchiori of Wisconsin and Mark Melchiori of Iron River, MI and Sun City, FL; sister, Mariam Sorby of Iron River, MI and Sun City, FL; aunt, Shirley Lund of Minnesota; uncle, Floyd Luke of Michigamme, MI; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A private Celebration of Life will be held. A graveside service will be held in the summer at Stambaugh Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and cards, memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 235 E. Genesee Street, Iron River, MI 49935.
