Mary A. Basso

Mary A. Basso, 96, passed away peacefully this past Thursday, September 13, at her home. She was born September 7, 1916 in Bessemer, MI, the daughter of the late Modesto and Domenica Basso. Mary was a lifelong resident of the area and attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School. For several years thereafter she worked as a sales clerk at Kroms. During WWII, she worked in Chicago as a riveter on the C47. She was later employed in Iron River at the City Laundry and Cleaners and then Coleman Products, retiring at the age of 65. Mary was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River. An avid seamstress, she also very much enjoyed embroidery, knitting, cooking and baking, reading and gardening. She had been a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend, and she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her brothers Dominic and John Basso and sisters Jennie Basso and Irene Ciochetto. She is survived by her sister Lena Moyle of Iron River, several nieces, a nephew, as well as many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday, September 21, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 22, at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River with Rev. Michael Ocran to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Pallbearers will be Michael, Dustin and Terry Phillips, Roger Jahfetson, Peter Gow, and Donald Ciochetto. Organist Luella Ambach will accompany the St. Agnes Choir on musical selections. Mary 's niece, Christine Phillips, will share a special eulogy. Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River is in charge of arrangements.
