Mary C. Jacobson

Mary C. Jacobson, age 77, of Iron River, MI, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. She was born February 21, 1936 in Caspian, MI, the daughter of the late Antonio and Rose (Folino) Fittante. She attended the Stambaugh schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School with the Class of 1954. She then attended Northern Michigan University for her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed at the Stambaugh Hospital, the Iron County Community Hospital and the Iron County Medical Care Facility for a total of over 33 years. She married Jack Jacobson on October 26, 1956 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in in 2013. Mary was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, St. Ann’s Society, the Daughters of Isabella, the Italian Ladies, and the 56 Club. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, and playing cards. Mary loved to joke and especially loved being with her husband. Mary is survived by her husband, Jack; daughters, Ann Marie (Curt) Kelly of New Paris, OH, and Julie (Zack) Jacobson-Weaver of Pittsburg, PA; brothers, Joseph (Kathy) Fittante of Caspian, and Sam (Mary) Fittante of Warren, MI; nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her brother, Louis Fittante, and sisters, Annette Krans, Angeline Canale, and infant sister, Carmella. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31st at 12:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The Ladies of St. Ann’s Society and the Italian Ladies will form an Honor Guard at the service. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring.
