Mrs. Mary LaFountain, age 82 of Iron River, MI, died Friday, January 23, 2009 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. Born July 10, 1926 in Nizne Ruzbachy, Slovakia The daughter of the late Jacob and Anna (Valigursky) Bicus came to the United States from Slovakia January 19, 1928, first settling in Johnstown, PA. They later moved to make their home in Bates Township, where she attended the Bates and Iron River schools, graduating from Iron River High School in 1946. She married Ray LaFountain on February 16, 1946 at the Assumption Church of Iron River, and the couple made their home in Bates Township. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1996. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and former Assumption Catholic Church, the Ladies of Mary, where she served as president as well as various other offices, St. Agnes Altar Society, Rosary Sodality, Bates Modern Homemakers Association, where she also held several offices, and for six years served as trustee on the Bates Township Board. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was known for her good sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray and two brothers, Andy and Frank. She is survived by two sons, Dennis LaFountain of Hollywood, FL Gary (Virginia) LaFountain of Iron River Two daughters, Janice (Phillip) Stanton of Oscoda, MI Kathleen (Jesse) Carlson of Negaunee, MI Three sisters, Margaret Contardi of Iron River Katherine Vuscko of Carpenterville, IL Dorothy Brown of West Dundee, IL Eleven grandchildren Nine great grandchildren Numerous nieces and nephews Visitation: Wednesday, January 28, 2009 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Services: Wednesday. January 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River with the Rev. Daniel Moll to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The ladies of the Rosary Sodality will provide an honor guard. Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
