Mary E. Schwark

Mary E. Schwark, age 101, of Iron River, MI, passes away Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Iron River Care Center. She was born August 27, 1914 in Geneseo, IL, the daughter of the late Ralph and Cora (Buckle) Wentz. She attended the Geneseo Schools, graduating with the Class of 1933. She married Herman Schwark on January 21, 1937 in Rock Island, IL. Herman preceded her in death. Mary moved to Iron River from Geneseo in 1975, settling on Gibbs City Road. She was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Iron River, where she played the organ and piano for services. She was also active at the Senior Citizen Center, and belonged to the Home Extension. She liked to hook rugs and do word search puzzles. Mary is survived by her son, James Schwark of Iron River, daughter Janet (Jere) Fritsche of Iron River, three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph and Norman Wentz. Visitation will be held Friday, November 20, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Manuel Padilla to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the West Iron County School Music Program, the Northwoods Animal Shelter, or St. John’s Episcopal Church.
