Melody L. Thompson, 70, of Iron River, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
She was born on September 15, 1955 in Cass City, MI, the daughter of the late Virgil and Lillian (Kendall) Thompson. Melody attended the Cass City Schools, graduating with the class of 1972. She later attended Gogebic Community College and earned an associate degree in medical transcription.
Melody was employed as a medical secretary at Marquette Medical Clinic in Iron River before retiring. She enjoyed being in nature and spending time outdoors camping, kayaking, and paddle boarding. She also liked to craft and crochet blankets for loved ones. Melody enjoyed traveling, her yearly trips to Florida, and trips with Debbie and Linda to “The Big Lake”. She also liked live music, dancing, and a cold Busch beer. She especially liked spending time with her grandchildren.
Melody is survived by her son, Keith (Kelley) Upperstrom of Champion, MI; daughter, Elena (Tim) Mapley of Haslett, MI; grandchildren, Harlow Upperstrom, Lawson Upperstrom, and Archer Mapley; brothers, Craig (Laura) Thompson of Humboldt, MI, Brian Thompson of Iron River, MI, and Roger (Michelle) Thompson of Mountain Home, ID; sisters, Pamala Juneau of Iron River, MI and LuAnn (Randy) Kralovetz of Escanaba, MI; significant other, Dan Gauthier of Iron Mountain, MI; father of her children, Kim Upperstrom of Caspian, MI; best friends, Linda Pomeroy and Debbie Caradonna; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
