Michael J. Masuga

Michael J. Masuga, loving husband and father, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at his home at the age of 72. He was born on March 4, 1947 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Paul B. and Virginia (Parolari) Masuga.  Michael was a lifelong resident of the area.  He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating with the Class of 1965. He also attended Gogebic Community College and Northern Michigan University. Michael was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam June 1968 to June 1969. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Expert Marksmanship Badge in Rifle, the Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze service stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Michael married Carol Montambo on December 30, 1967 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. The couple celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in 2018. He was employed as the Assistant Administrator of the Iron County Medical Care Facility for 26 years.  Michael was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River.  He was an avid aquarist and enjoyed communicating on CB radios, woodworking and carpentry, and going for walks.  Michael is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Michael (Cassandra) Masuga and Daniel (Alisha T.) Masuga; daughter, Heidi Baumgartner; six grandchildren, Jacob, Joseph, Kaleb, Kristian, Olivia, and Jonah; brother, Paul (Marlene) Masuga; sister, Mary (Richard) Shamion; his mother-in-law, Marie Montambo; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends and his favorite pet, Milo. Private services will be held. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River, MI. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Michael J.
