Michael “Mike” T. Ghiotto, age 62, of Iron River, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born June 11, 1955 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of Bruno Ghiotto and the late Joan (Nelson) Ghiotto. He attended the West Iron County Schools, graduating with the Class of 1973. Mike married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ruzzicone on September 1, 1979 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. The soulmates celebrated 38 wonderful years together this past fall. He was employed as a welder and foreman by Lakeshore Systems for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing bocce ball. He delighted in “tormenting” the kids and adored his best friend and faithful campion, his dog, Harley. He was also a member of the Chain Gang for Wykon Football and he was an avid Detroit Lions fan. Mike is survived by his loving wife, Mary; sons, Darren (Megan Serbinski) and Jason (Angela) Ghiotto, both of Iron River, MI; father and stepmother, Bruno and Ann Marie Ghiotto of Gaastra, MI; sister, Rose Ghiotto of Scranton, PA; six grandchildren, Lydia, Landon, Liam, Ashley, Gregory and Madelina; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan in 1973. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, in the spring.
