Michael J. Sheehy

Michael “Mike” Sheehy, 84, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI.

He was born on February 9, 1942, in Grayling, MI, the son of the late Reginald and Alma (Barber) Sheehy. Mike attended and graduated from the Grayling Schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Mike married Kathy Lange on May 8, 1976, in Newberry, MI. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.

Over the years, Mike employed as a Michigan State Police Officer and Conservation Officer and was a Certified Register Nurse Anesthetist. He also was the owner/operator of the Gun Barn for many years. Mike was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #21, and the VFW Ottawa Post #3134. He was a former member of the Iron River Elks Lodge #1671 and the Crystal Falls/Iron River Masonic Lodge #385. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and being a private pilot.

Mike is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Jayne (Dennis) Hannan of Colby, WI, Steven (Roxanne Thome) Sheehy of Endeavor, WI, Heather (Michael) Taetsch of Traverse City, MI, Thomas (Diane) Sheehy of Dearborn Heights, MI, and Heidi (Scott) Bociek of Iron River; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Sheehy and sisters, Jennie Anne Andrews and Jean Chartier.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.

Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Fosu to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord the Military Rites at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to their favorite charity in Mike’s name.
