Michelle J. Peterson

Michelle Jonette (McCarthy) Peterson, 42, of Iron River, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 4, 2026. She was born on October 26, 1983, and attended West Iron County High School.

Throughout her working life, Michelle served her community with a compassionate heart, working as a nurse's aide and as a cashier at the Super One grocery store. Known for being deeply caring and always willing to lend a helping hand, she brought warmth and kindness to everyone she met. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to laugh, and cherished every moment spent with her family and friends.

Michelle had a great appreciation for the outdoors and spent her free time enjoying many hobbies. Whether she was playing a game of pool, camping with her husband, fishing, hunting, or simply gathering with her children, she embraced life fully and created lasting memories.

She is survived by her husband, Jesse Peterson; her sons, Ayden, Cameron, and Donovan Jarvi; her stepdaughters, Olivia Peterson, Samantha (Christopher) Mesik, Brandi (Conner) Peterson, and Ianna Taylor; her sisters, Cherie (Ray Taylor) McCarthy of Iron River, Cara (Ken Wilson) Knapp of Arizona, and Bonnie (Jimmy) Bostwick of Arizona; half-sister Krista (Doug) Leonoff of Iron River; half-brother Jamie Jean of Iron River; step-brother, Holden Bozile; three step-grandchildren, Nova, Everleigh, and Leelani; godfather Jerry Montambo; special friends Rochelle Steber, Mary “Mimi” Burns, ; former husband Levi Jarvi (and Rosie Battye); uncle, Thomas Jarvi; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Jericho) Jarvi, Jacci Hulce, and Pam (John) Bostwick-Donnelly; and extended family and friends.

Michelle was preceded in death by her parents, James Jean and Carol Malott, and her brother, John Bostwick.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the U.P. River Church in Iron River. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor James Pellizzer and Pastor Ron Taylor to officiate. A luncheon and continued time of sharing will follow at the VFW Ottawa Post 3134.
