Mildred F. Soderbloom

Mildred F. Soderbloom, 86, of Iron River, MI, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility. Mildred was born October 30, 1930 in Chassell, MI, the daughter of the Toivo and Mayme (Laakaniemi) Maki. She attended schools in Keweenaw Bay and Iron River, MI. Mildred was united in marriage to Vernon Soderbloom on November 1, 1947 and the couple made their home in Iron River. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2012. Mildred was employed by Coleman Products as a line supervisor, Iron County Medical Care Facility as a CNA, as a cook at Ski Brule and the Iron County Youth Camp (Camp Batawagama), and as a Nurse’s Aide working in home health care retiring in 2010. Mildred was a member of Grace Covenant Church of Iron River. She was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed craft work, crocheting, and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mildred is survived by her children, Nancy (Tom) Burcar of Davison, MI; Curtis (Patty) Soderbloom of Iron River; Alan (Debbie) Soderbloom of Caspian, MI; David (Beverly) Soderbloom of Quinnesec, MI; Cindy Barrette of Iron River; Betsy (Charles) Soderbloom of Harper Woods, MI; sister, Dorothy Poehlman of La Quinta, CA; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Soderbloom of Iron River and Gloria Maki of West Bend, WI; brothers-in-law, Robert (Kathy) Soderbloom of Stoughton, WI and Dale (Sandee) Soderbloom of Sauk Village, IL; grandchildren, Paul (Cari) Soderbloom of Dowagiac, MI; Michele (Michael) Dunn of Bay City, MI; Bradley (Jillian) Burcar of Smyrna, GA; Rose Soderbloom of Menasha, WI; David (Kristal) Soderbloom of Caspian; Emily (Wrenn) Cathey of Fulton, MO; Jerry Revis of Fence, WI; Amanda (Howard) Brady of Trout Creek, MI; Brandan & Steven Soderbloom of Caspian; Laila Amuyunzu of Harper Woods, MI; Derek Palmer of Rochester, MN; and Kristy Palmer of Florence, WI; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon; brothers, Marvin and Russell Maki; sister-in-law, Eunice Soderbloom; brothers-in-law, Carl Jr., Ralph, and Marvin Soderbloom; son-in-law, Donald Barrette; and daughter-in-law, Rose Ann (Carlotto) Soderbloom. Honoring Mildred’s wishes, private family services will be held. Memorial contributions can be made to the Friends of Camp Batawagama. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. Han, N.P. Jill Nocerini, and the staff at the Iron County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care our mom received during the last few months.
