Muriel O. Christian Age 95 Formerly of Iron River and Stambaugh, MI Passed away on December 12, 2010. She was born on June 2, 1915 in Negaunee, MI, the daughter of the late Eli and Bessie (Pearce) Johns. She moved to Stambaugh as a small child and attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating in 1933. After graduation, she worked as a cashier at Krom's Department Store and then at the Iron County Reporter office in Iron River. Muriel married Albert E. Christian on July 31, 1936 at the First Presbyterian Manse in Stambaugh. Albert and Muriel lived on U.S. 2, West of Iron River for over 50 years before moving to the Hillside Apartments in Stambaugh in 1989. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1986 in Iron River with family and friends. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2001 in Wautoma, WI with family. Albert preceded her in death. Muriel moved to Wild Rose, WI in May, 2005, where she lived closer to her family. She was an accomplished seamstress and taught the Bishop sewing method for six years at the Community Schools. Her hobbies included golf and cards. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iron County and past member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Iron River. She was also a past member of the Lady Elks. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, William, Norman and Ben, and one sister, Dorothy Anderson. She is survived by her children, Albert Edward (Judy) Christian of Wautoma, WI and Barbara (Peter) Buchanan of Brighton, CO. There are four grandchildren which are: Dawn Flancher Halm, Brenda (Christian) Ratajczak, Rodney Flancher and Audra (Christian) Schuessler. Her nine great grandchildren include: Scott Flancher, Derek Ratajczak, Sam Flancher, Alicia Ratajczak, Sonia Flancher, Jaculyn Halm, Elizabeth Schuessler, Erin Schuessler and John Schuessler. There are four sisters, Betty Moczynski of Milwaukee, WI, Lois Temple of Paduca, KY, Lucille Johns and Doris Robinson of Iron River, MI. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Johns of Gaastra, MI and Lela Johns of Escanaba along with other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, with Pastor Dawn Treado Green to officiate.
