Murray E. Baker, 96, passed away peacefully at Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, MI on Thursday, May 12, 2011. Murray was born on December 8, 1914 to the late Frank and Frances (Belland) Baker in Stambaugh, MI. After graduating from Stambaugh High School, Murray served with the US Army during WWII. For over 21 years he was employed as a truck driver for DuPont. On July 12, 1943, Murray married the former Greta Holm and she preceded him in death in 1975. He later married Helen Holm, and she also preceded him in death in 1997. Murray was a lifelong member of the American Legion Reino Post 21, in which he served as Sergeant at Arms with their Drill Team and Commander for many years. He was also a member of the VFW, the Disabled American Veterans, the Stambaugh Fire Department and St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian. He was an avid cribbage player, snowmobiler, hunter and golfer. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank and Clarence, as well as his sisters, Adele Erickson, Celeste Westerdahl, Irene Croslin and Fernette Posanzza. Murray was a loving father to his children; Pete (Sherry) Baker, Westminster, CO, Cathy (Ted) Lammers, Pilot Grove, MO and Curt (Nancy) Baker, Germantown, WI. Surviving step- children include; Albert (Gail) Holm of Columbia, MD, Carl (Ruthann) Holm, Marquette, MI, Terri Olan, Onalaska, WI, and Wayne Holm, Rochester, MN. He leaves behind his siblings; Bill (Nancy) Baker, Little Lake, MI, James (Madeline) Baker, Warren, MI and Jeanne Barube, Midland, MI. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on May 21 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian at 10:00 AM. The family will receive visitors starting one hour before the service at the church. Graveside services will be held immediately after at Stambaugh Cemetery.
