Myrna S. Cook, age 83, of Iron River, MI, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, January 6, 2022. She was born on June 15, 1938 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Andrew and Hilma (Olafsson) Wikstrom. Myrna attended Bates and Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the class of 1956. Myrna married Edward Cook on December 15, 1962, at the First Lutheran Church in Iron River. They resided in Crystal Falls, raising two children and later moved to her parents’ farm in Bates Township. The couple celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in 2021. Myrna was a member of the First Lutheran Church. She was a devout Christian and gave so much of her time and talents to the church. She was known for her beautiful singing voice at church choir, funerals, and weddings. She enjoyed working as a janitor at the church until her retirement. Her many hobbies included gardening, hiking, snowshoeing, fishing, hunting, knitting, cross stitch, and baking. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage and spoke fluent Swedish. She was a loving wife and mother. She cherished the time she spent with family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Edward; son, Andrew (Linda) Zamot of Iron Mountain, MI; daughter, Penny (Jody Hanold) Bruce of Crystal Falls, MI; grandchildren, Christina (Mike) Hammill, John Bruce, Michael (Brianne Hazelwood) Zamot, Brian (Ashley Montrose) Zamot; great grandchildren, Chase Hammill, Hadley Hammill, Macsen Hammill, Rowan Bruce, Kora Zamot, Leah Zamot, and Daxon Zamot; nieces and nephews; Ann-Louise (Jeff) Ebert, Sharon (Steve) Opolka, Billy (Patti) Cook, Ben (Brenda) Cook, Robert (Charlene) Cook; dog, Finley; extended family and many wonderful friends. She was also preceded in death by her infant brother, Kjell M. Wikstrom. Private services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Bates Township Cemetery.
