Nancy J. Pasternak, 77, of Iron River, MI passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital.
She was born on September 3, 1948, in Rockford, IL, the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Perkins) DeVolder. She attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School with the class of 1967. She then attended Bay de Noc Community College for her LPN degree.
Nancy married John Pasternak on July 28, 1973, at Grace Covenant Church in Iron River. The couple celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary in 2017. John preceded her in death on March 25, 2018.
She was employed as an LPN at Iron County General until her MS forced her to retire. Nancy was a member of Grace Covenant Church and the Iron River and Crystal Falls VFW Auxiliaries. She was a former member of the Lady Elks, was head of the Iron County MS Society, had served on the North Pointe board and worked on the voting board in Bates Township. She enjoyed being involved at the Elks Lodge, spending time with her family, friends, and grandchildren, camping, spending time around a bonfire, working in her flowerbeds with her green thumb and she loved to cook and bake.
Nancy is survived by her four daughters, Kathy (Terry) Wiltgen of Denmark, WI, Julie Pasternak of Oconto Falls, WI, Sherrie (Dennis) Grogan of Appleton, WI and Jill Bubolz of Caspian, MI; two sons, Johnny Pasternak of Iron River, MI and Wayne Pasternak of Iron Mountain, MI; grandchildren, Christopher (Nicole) Pasternak, Nicole Sanders, James (Katie) Vannaman, Dawn (Doug) Kellogg, Brandon Vannaman, Dan (Chelsea) Gostisha, Micheal (Heather) Gostisha, Lily Bubolz, Mikayla and Steven Kunick; step grandson, Brian (Leslie) Grogan; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Peter DeVolder of Sterling Heights, MI; brother-in-law, Jerry Henry of Florida; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Betty VanRyzin and Charlotte (Roger) Grandahl; son-in-law, Tom Bickle (Julie); great-grandson, Connor; grandson-in-law, Rob Sanders (Nicole); in-laws, John and Hazel Pasternak; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kobylarz, Irene Talmont, and Mary Henry.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Covenant Church in Iron River. The Nurses Honor Guard of Dickinson/Iron Counties will conduct honors at 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Mike Poindexter to officiate.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Aspirus Iron River Hospital, Nicole Anderson, and Neil Johnson for all their compassion at the end of her life.
