Nicholas C. Benda

Nicholas C. Benda, age 83, of Gaastra, MI, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born on June 30, 1938, in Iron Mountain, MI, the son of the late John C. and Olive (Kaufman) Benda. Nicholas attended the Niagara, WI schools. He was veteran of the U.S. Navy. Nicholas married Carole Pelkey on January 21, 1965, in Caspian, MI. The couple celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in 2021. He was employed as a truck driver for the Iron County Road Commission. Nicholas was a member of The American Legion Reino Post 21 and the Teamsters Union. He was an avid golfer at Young’s Golf Course. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with his family, and was a die-hard Green Bay Packer fan. Nicholas is survived by his wife, Carole; sons, Brian (Wendy) Benda of Iron River, MI and Jeffrey (Tammy) Benda of Champion, MI; sister, Virginia Spigarelli of Iron Mountain, MI; grandchildren, Casey, Melissa, Nikki, Nicholas, and Brandon; great grandchildren, Aaron, Trey, Tori, Harlie, Gracyn, Preslie, and Avalyn; beloved dog, Roxi; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites.
