Oscar Greenlund, age 99, of Iron Mountain, MI, died on Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Manor Care Nursing Center in Kingsford, MI. Oscar was born August 31, 1917 in Beechwood, MI, the son of the late Oscar and Lillian (Nash) Greenlund. He attended and graduated from the Detroit High School. He then attended Melican University. Oscar worked in the Payroll Office of Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI from 1940 to 1943. He then entered the U.S. Air Force. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to Ford in Dearborn for two years and then transferred to the Iron Mountain plant for three years. He was employed as a lumber and sawmill operator for four years. Later he was employed at Chester Assembly in Chester, PA for three years and retired from Lorain Assembly in Lorain, OH after 22 years. Oscar married the former Eileen M. Peterson on February 26, 1940 in Iron River and the couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in February of 2010. Eileen preceded him in death on June 25, 2010. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge of Iron River and Crystal Falls, the Shriners and the Elks Lodge of Iron River, and the Scottish Rite of Marquette. Oscar is survived by nieces, nephews and extended family. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Carrie Cwik and Amy Alotis. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with prayers led by Pastor Dawn Robbins. The West Side Veterans will also be in attendance to accord Military Rites at the graveside.
