Paul A. Carlson, age 90, of Iron River, MI, passed away Monday, August 15, 2016 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. He was born November 12, 1925 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of the late Andrew and Stavy (Milanowski) Carlson.   He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating with the Class of 1943. He was a U.S. Navy/ Marine Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. Paul married the former Jean Krempasky on November 22, 1952 and the couple celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in 2006. Jean preceded him in death on May 22, 2007. He was employed as a miner in the local mines by M.A. Hanna Mining Company for over 30 years. Paul was a member of VFW Ottawa Post #3134 of Iron River.  In his younger years, he played Minor League baseball for the Chicago Cubs. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed both playing and watching sports and always attended West Iron County High School sporting events, and umpired baseball for many years. He loved the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Paul is survived by his son, David (Donnalee) Carlson of Caspian; daughter, Darlene Osier of Iron River; five grandchildren, Jamie (Gretchen) Carlson, Jennifer Osier, Jonathan (Shannon) Osier, Michelle (Tyler) Chernach, and Michael Carlson; seven great grandchildren, Austin, Kayla, Grayson, Kinslie, Braylee, Jordi, and Collins; sisters, Candy, Paula, Lorraine, and Andrea; nieces, nephews, and extended family.    He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Kenneth Osier in 2006. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at 10:45 a.m. and funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to officiate.
