Pearl H. Mylchreest, of Iron River, MI, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Northstar Hospital in Iron River. She was born on April 27, 1921 in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late Nicholas J. and Verna Hazel (Bowman) Williams. She graduated from the Crystal Falls High School on May 29, 1940. Pearl married Tovio S. Toukkala on May 28, 1949 in Crystal Falls and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1958. Pearl married John Mervin Mylchreest on November 5, 1960 in Crystal Falls and he preceded her in death on November 16, 1987. She was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Iron River. Pearl loved to keep busy, baking and cooking, working in her yard and home, reading, planting flowers and a small garden, driving to the store, visiting friends and family, Christmas shopping year round, and eating out. But most of all, she loved her grandchildren. “They keep me young,” she would say. Pearl is survived by daughters, Carolyn Beck of Amasa, MI, Donna (Patrick) Jackson of Grass Lake, MI; sons, Jerry (Nancy) Mylchreest, Randy (Tammy Remer) Mylchreest, both of Iron River, and Alan (Carol) Toukkala of Albion, MI; stepdaughters, Marge Mylchreest of Iron River, Sally (Don) Fiorani of Atlantic Mine, MI; 22 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and four great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, James, and Leslie; two sisters, Eva and “Baby Girl”, who passed at one day old; two stepsons, Donald and Marshal “Butch” Mylchreest; a stepdaughter, Marlene Halvas; two grandsons, Nicholas Jackson and Ryan Mylchreest; and a great granddaughter, Kaylea Mylchreest. Services will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Iron River with a visitation from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. and services at 11:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon provided by the Wesley United Methodist Ladies. Pastor Roberta Wilson will officiate. Interment will be at the Stambaugh Cemetery.
