Peter S. Korach

Peter “Pete” S. Korach, age 84, of Iron River, MI, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015.He was born June 25, 1931 in Crosby, MN, the son of Marion and Violet (Jenkins) Korach. He graduated from the Crosby-Ironton Schools in 1949. Peter worked underground mining for Inland Steel for 35 years. During this time frame he also served as Iron County Mine Inspector for 25 years. Following his retirement from mining, he worked construction for 15 years.Pete married the former Bernice Engman on June 13, 1952 in Saginaw, MN. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2012. Bernice preceded him in death on October 6, 2012. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union, the National Slovenian Benefit Lodge, the VFW, and the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog. He also liked hunting, spending time outdoors and at his camp, and helping people build or fix things. If anyone was in need of help, Pete was there. He always rooted for the “underdog”.Pete is survived by his sons, Reen Lee (Jill) Korach of Iron Mountain, MI, and Dean (Alan) Korach of Duluth, MN; daughters, Rebecca (Jean Small) Korach of Edina, MN, and Judith (Clarence) Tryba of Mosinee, WI; sister, Shirley Ann Abrahamson of Brainerd, MN; sisters-in-law, Lois LeBlanc and Karon Engman; two grandchildren, Reen and Kim; one great granddaughter, Kali Jean Grandquist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Violet Korach; brothers, John and Myron; sisters, Josephine Oppelt and Bertha Paules; mother-in-law, Alice Engman, and father-in-law, John Engman; brothers-in-law Jack Engman and Patrick LeBlanc. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 9:00 to10:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Crosby, MN.The family suggests memorial donations to the Northwoods Animal Shelter, Iron River.
