Phyllis L. Ponozzo

Phyllis L. Ponozzo, 95, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crytal Falls, MI.

She was born on March 21, 1930, in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Andrew and Alice (Wagberg) Anderson. She attended the Iron River Schools, graduating with the class of 1948.

Phyllis married Rudolph “Rudy” Ponozzo on January 20, 1973, in Iron River, MI. The couple celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary in 1987. Rudy preceded her in death on May 4, 1987.

She was employed as a teller at Miners State Bank. Phyllis was a member of the First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed walking, golfing, picking berries, working in her flower garden, bowling, and family get-togethers.

Phyllis is survived by her sons, Dale (Sandra) Whear and Brian (Laurie) Whear, both of Iron River, MI; stepson, Mark (Jill) Ponozzo of Iron River; stepdaughters, Patti Dzanbazoff of Iron River and Debra (Jon) Clark of Leesburg, FL; brother, Jerry (Janet) Anderson of Caspian, MI; sister, Joan Varney of Iron River; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Chris Whear; brother, Robert Anderson; and infant twin sisters, Rena and Rita Anderson.

Private family services will be held.

Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
