Rae Drake Sr.

Rae Drake Sr., age 88, of Crystal Falls, MI, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. He was born September 8, 1926 in Stambaugh, MI, son of the late Garfield and Pearl (Rae) Drake. He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School with the Class of 1944. He attended Michigan State University for his Teaching Degree and Northern Michigan University for his Master’s Degree. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Rae married the former Carol M. Stevens on May 20, 1952 in Ludington, MI and the couple celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this year. He enjoyed coaching and loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Rae (Mollie) Drake Jr. of Marquette, MI, and Paul (Dawn) Drake of Plover, WI; daughters, Monica (Mitchell Ketchens) Drake of Clarksville, TN, Virginia (Stefano) Brajdic of Miami, FL, and Amy (Robert) Thomson of Marquette, MI; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Garfield II and Merlin. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, with Pastor Dawn Treado Green to officiate. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
