Ralph Nels Johnson

Ralph Nels Johnson, age 86, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021. He was born on November 27, 1934, in Iron River, MI, the son of the late Nels and Fern (Vassar) Johnson. Ralph attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1953. He was a US Army Veteran. Ralph married Sharon Olson on August 24, 1957. They celebrated 60 wonderful years together in 2017. Sharon preceded him in death on April 21, 2018. He was employed as miner at the Groveland Mine. Ralph was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Iron River, AMVETS Post #436, and the West Side Veterans Honor Guard. He enjoyed fishing, going to church, working on vehicles and small engine repair and he loved collecting clocks. Ralph is survived by his sons, Michael (Theresa) Johnson, Mark Johnson, and Neil Johnson, all of Iron River, MI; daughters, Linda (Ed) Panyard of Higgins Lake, MI and Shelley (Paul) Tomlinson of Iron River, MI; 16 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; extended family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Delores Pearson and grandson Michael Ralph Johnson, Jr. A graveside service will be held on Saturday October 9, 2021, at 11:00am at Rosehill Cemetery in Iron River where the West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites.
