Rhoda A. Westphal

Rhoda A. Westphal Age 91 Caspian, MI Passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the Iron River Care Center. She was born March 18, 1921 in Caspian, MI, the daughter of the late John S. and Rhoda (Brooks) Hardy. She attended the Stambaugh schools and graduated from Stambaugh High School with honors with the Class of 1939. Rhoda married Uno Aho and the couple made their home in Iron River. She was employed for many years for a local attorney and later at the District Court and D.A. McPherson. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the District Library, and was a Girl Scout leader. Uno preceded her in death in 1973. On Septemeber 13, 1975, Rhoda married Orville Westphal, and the couple made their home in Caspian. They celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary this year. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River and the Northland Chorus. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, and writing. She is survived by her husband, Orville Son, Keith (Jana) Aho of Gladstone, MI Daughter, Susan Dennis of Gladstone, MI Grandson, Jason and granddaughter, Jaime Aho She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, Elmer, and William, and her sister, Ruth. Memorial services will be held Monday, October 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, with Rev. Bonny Kinunen to officiate.
