Richard A. Battye, 77, had recently returned to Iron River, MI and passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
He was born on June 4, 1948, in Iron River, Michigan, the son of the late Edward and Angeline (Anesi) Battye. Richard attended Stambaugh Schools and graduated with the Class of 1966. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1971.
Richard worked as a product development manager for Fujifilm in Chicago, IL prior to his retirement. Known as “Mr. Fix-it,” he was always working on projects and enjoyed staying busy. He loved golfing, hunting, bowling, photography, and being outdoors. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and softball. Richard also followed Auburn University sports.
He is survived by his sons, Brent Battye of Highland Park, IL, and Bryce Battye of Elmhurst, IL; his daughter, Melissa (Wilson) Mills of Lakeville, MN; his brother, Robert (Sandra) Battye of Auburn, AL; grandchildren, Andrew and Katie Mills; nephews, Jim Battye and Rick (Karen) Battye; nieces, Lynn (Paul) Green and Christine (John) Ramiriz; as well as extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Battye and brothers, Dale, Gary, and Gerald Battye.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Stambaugh Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
