Richard E. Lawry, age 93, Iron River, MI, died Friday September 5, 2008 at the Iron River Care Center, Iron River. Born: September 29, 1914 in Ishpeming, MI The son of the late Richard and Minnie Lawry attended the North Lake schools and graduated. He first worked in the CC Camps. He married Nerissa LaFreniere in 1940 in Iron River. The couple made their home in Iron River and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He was preceded in death by Nerissa in 2006. Richard was employed by the Inland Steel Mining Company as a chemist at the Sherwood Mine. He retired in 1978 when the mine closed. He was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, where he served as Superintendent for many years and also taught Sunday school. He enjoyed photography, and was an avid fisherman and fly-tier. He was also preceded in death by a brother John, and sisters Mildred, Grace and Della. Survived by daughter; Ruth Gustafson of Ishpeming, MI Two grandchildren; Grant (Lori) Guston and Tara McNaire Two great grandsons; Griffin and Asher Guston Several nieces and nephews Graveside Services will be held Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River, with Rev. Mark Ryan to officiate, with interment to follow. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
